The A6 e-tron is based on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE) and is offered with rear-wheel drive or quattro all-wheel drive. The scalable drive system covers four output levels and two battery sizes across the Sportback and Avant bodies.

Batteries and charging

The entry-level A6 e-tron uses an 83 kWh gross / 75.8 kWh usable battery with ten modules. It supports DC charging at up to 225 kW. The performance, quattro and S6 versions use a 100 kWh gross / 94.9 kWh usable battery with twelve modules and support up to 270 kW DC.

Both battery sizes can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 21 minutes under ideal conditions. At compatible 400-volt chargers, the 800-volt battery can be split electrically into two 400-volt banks and charged in parallel. AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW.

Motors

Rear-wheel-drive variants use a permanent-magnet synchronous motor on the rear axle. Quattro variants add an asynchronous motor at the front. The front motor can rotate with very low drag when it is not needed, supporting efficiency while allowing rapid all-wheel-drive response.

System output ranges from 210 kW in the A6 e-tron to 370 kW, or 405 kW with Launch Control, in the S6 e-tron.

Recuperation

The blended braking system combines regenerative and friction braking and can recuperate at up to 220 kW, depending on battery temperature, state of charge and available traction. Audi states that regeneration can cover around 95 percent of everyday braking events.

Steering-wheel paddles provide two manually selected recuperation levels. The driver can also choose coasting or the stronger B mode, which enables substantial deceleration when the accelerator is released.

Suspension

Depending on configuration, the A6 e-tron is available with steel-spring or adaptive air suspension. The optional air suspension combines controlled damping with four ride-height levels. In efficiency mode it can lower the body by up to 20 mm at speed to reduce aerodynamic drag.
